Together we create infinity
All doubts on a B-school being part of a Technology Institute were well on their way out of the window on 14th October 2008, as MIT Sloan's Paul Krugman, walked towards the podium to receive the Nobel prize for Economics. Another testament to this trend is the lofty growth trajectory of the Department of Management Studies IIT Delhi. Armed with brand IIT, a profound base of intellectual capital and a globally unmatched infrastructure, DMS has carved a formidable niche for itself.
The compelling evidence of the vast swathe of top quality management research that DMS has churned over the years is a testament to the pioneering scholastic excellence of DMS and indicates its rise as a hub of emerging management trends globally. Its pivotal contributions to the industry and the recurring faith of our recruiters is an earnest attestation to the DMS journey, a voyage which aspires to challenge existing dogmas, create trailblazing insights, reshape management thought and most importantly actualize ideas: an endless pursuit of perfection to infinity and beyond.
About DMS
Post Graduate Management education began in IIT Delhi in 1976 with Professor Sudhir Kakar as first Co-ordinator of the PG program in what was then the 'School of System and Management Studies. Through gradual process of evolution, when Professor Vinayshil Gautam was the Head in 1993, it acquired the statutory status of 'Department Management Studies' under the I.I.T. Delhi Act.
Located within the lush environs of IIT Delhi, Department of Management Studies (DMS) is the result of an evolutionary process which led to establishment of the department in 1993, with the program being formally anointed MBA in 1997. In its 34 years of management education Department of Management Studies has emerged as a touchstone of techno-managerial expertise. DMS academia boasts of past masters who have helped script Indian management thought. DMS distinguishes itself by its seminal work in critical domain areas on current and emerging management issues our department strives in. DMS pedagogy stresses on the research methodology along with hands-on industry experience to internalize management paradigms. Being part of IIT-Delhi family, gives DMSites access to synergies and opportunities which produce an unmatched learning environment.
The students in two-year full time MBA programme are admitted through a rigorous screening process under Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET). Out of almost 70,000 students appearing for the rigorous 3 hour test, only the top 500 rankers are called for the group discussion and interview phase where they face panels of our eminent faculty, several amongst whom have served as the chairpersons of selection boards for top echelons of the government and corporates. The final selection, which leaves 100 odd candidates, is at a selection ratio of almost 1000 to 1, one of the most grueling across b-schools globally.
